Search Fayette County Inmate Records

Fayette County inmate records begin with the sheriff's jail roster for people in local custody. The Fayette County jail roster search helps families, attorneys, and record users look up Fayette County inmates, read booking and charge fields, and decide when another official system should be checked. County jail records are separate from state prison, federal custody, immigration detention, and court case files, so a complete search may need more than one official channel.

Fayette County Jail Roster

The official roster is the Fayette Sheriff Inmate Lookup, linked from the sheriff's inmate lookup landing page. It is free and no login was visible during research. The page tells users to enter the inmate's full name in first-name last-name order and to spell it correctly. It also gives filters for All Inmates and Booked in Last 72 Hours, plus sort controls for Alphabetically and By Booking Date.

The roster is best for current Fayette County Jail custody, recent bookings, local bond checks, and people serving short county sentences. It is not a state prison locator, a federal inmate locator, an ICE detainee locator, or the final court case record. If the roster misses a person, the next step depends on why the person may not be listed: a fresh arrest, a transfer, a sentence, a federal hold, immigration custody, a name spelling issue, or a record that must be requested from the sheriff.

The sheriff's Inmate Lookup page is the official landing page for the tool, and the sheriff's Resources page supplies the open-records, incident-report, criminal-history, restriction, and mugshot-request routes when an online profile is not enough.

Use Fayette County Inmate Lookup

A good Fayette County inmate records search starts by saving the exact values shown on the roster. The name, start date, booking number, booking date, statute, offense, court/warrant identifier, and bond field can be needed later by jail staff, clerk staff, or an attorney. The roster's own format matters because it expects first name followed by last name, not the last-name-first format used by some court systems.

  1. Open the Fayette Sheriff Inmate Lookup from the sheriff site or direct lookup page.
  2. Enter the person's full name as FirstName LastName and check the spelling against court papers, citations, or family records.
  3. Use Booked in Last 72 Hours if the arrest was recent, or sort By Booking Date if timing is more useful than alphabetic order.
  4. Click the matching roster result to expand the profile and read the booking number, booking date, physical descriptors, charges, court/warrant entries, and bond fields.
  5. Call the jail at 770-716-4720 or 770-716-4734 when a bond says n/a, a name is uncertain, or the booking may be too new to display.
  6. Check GDC, BOP, ICE, VINELink, or the clerk docket if the person may have left county jail custody or moved into another legal system.

Fayette County Roster Fields

The search interface is simple, but the result controls are important. The roster returned a broad result count during inspection even before a specific name was entered, which means the filters and sort controls can help when the exact spelling is not known. The sheriff did not publish a refresh schedule or release-retention period beyond the 72-hour booked filter.

Fayette County Inmate Profile

Expanded roster records show a working custody snapshot, not the full jail file. The top-level result columns include last name, first name, middle name, suffix, race, sex, and start date. Expanded records add city, state, zip, age, height, weight, booking number, booking date and time, and charge rows. Each charge row uses Statute, Offense, Court, Warrant, and Bond columns.

Fayette County Bond Fields

Bond values on the roster appear by charge row. Some rows may show a dollar amount, and others may show n/a. That value should not be translated into a total release cost without jail or court confirmation. A person may have more than one charge, a probation or parole matter, another agency hold, a no-bond order, a federal hold, or a court-only release decision.

The sheriff explains that bond is a contract that guarantees the defendant will appear for court, not a fine. Fayette County Jail says inmates can be bonded out 24 hours a day. Accepted local bond paths include cash or bank-certified check, Fayette County property bond, listed professional bonding companies, and transfer property bonds from another county. A $20 cash-only, non-refundable fee applies to every bond written under the Georgia Code section cited by the sheriff.

Fayette County Jail Facility

The jail is operated by the Fayette County Sheriff's Office and serves as the local receiving and holding facility for pretrial detainees, people serving up to 12 months, and people waiting for transfer to state facilities. Booking in Fayette County

After arrest, the person is transported to the Fayette County Jail for intake if the arrest is local and the jail is the receiving facility. Jail staff identify the person, create or associate a booking number, secure personal property, deposit any money in the inmate account, and route medications for medical clearance. The sheriff's inmate information page says property is secured in a locked property room and only white undergarments may remain with the inmate upon arrival.

First appearance is the first court hearing on the current charges. The sheriff's FAQ says a judge may set bond at that hearing and that first appearance is not open to the public. Once the roster profile appears, the booking number, booking date, statute, offense, court/warrant identifier, and bond fields become the public clues for custody and court follow-up. More complete booking records, incident reports, or booking photos may require the sheriff's records channels.

Fayette County Jail Visits

Fayette County Jail uses scheduled 45-minute visitation slots. The inmate must schedule the visit one day before the visit, and an inmate may have only two visits per week. Mail and Money Rules

Personal mail no longer goes straight to the jail. The sheriff says personal mail must be sent through JailATM's processing address and is scanned for electronic access. Personal mail sent directly to the jail after September 1, 2023 is returned to sender. Legal mail remains a separate direct-to-jail route and must come from an approved legal entity with a verifiable return address.

State Federal ICE Searches

Fayette County inmate records do not live in one database. The GDC Find an Offender page covers people currently in Georgia state prison custody, not new county jail bookings. The BOP inmate locator covers federal custody and federal release records from 1982 to present. ICE ODLS covers current adult ICE custody and CBP custody over 48 hours, using an A-number with country of birth or full biographical data with country of birth. VINELink Georgia can help with custody search and notification.

Fayette County Records Requests

When the public roster does not show the needed record, Fayette Sheriff's Support Services is the local fallback. The sheriff Resources page states that Support Services responds to open-records requests under O.C.G.A. § 50-18-70. It links to the JustFOIA open-records portal, a Mug Shot Request Form, incident and accident report request routes, criminal history request information, and arrest-record restriction materials.

Incident and accident reports are generally available within 3 to 5 business days from filing. Accident reports cost $5 per report copy unless the requester is an involved individual. Incident reports cost $0.10 per page unless the requester is an involved individual. Criminal history requests through the sheriff are local, consent-based, in person, limited to Fayette County residents age 17 or older, and not accepted for housing or apartment purposes.
